As the world unites to celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday, 8 March 2025, Solar Village SDG is set to honour the achievements of women and girls in Sri Lanka through two impactful events: an exclusive online panel discussion and twin fundraising bazaars in London and Colombo.

Fempower Sri Lanka: A Virtual Celebration of Women’s Empowerment

Taking place on the 8th of March 2025 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm GMT (6:00pm – 7:30pm Sri Lanka) via Eventbrite, the “Fempower Sri Lanka” online panel event will bring together five remarkable Sri Lankan women to discuss female empowerment and the importance of female labour force participation in Sri Lanka.

The keynote address will be delivered by Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson, a distinguished leader serving as Chief Operating Officer (Head of APAC 5Hour International Corporation Singapore), a Non-Executive Director at NDB Bank PLC Sri Lanka, and a Board Member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. She previously served as the Group CEO of HEMAS PLC and is widely acclaimed as Sri Lanka’s first female Group CEO of a conglomerate.

Joining the panel are notable Sri Lankan professionals from diverse fields:

  • Sandra de Zoysa: Group Chief Customer Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC

Alongside the virtual event, Solar Village SDG will host two fundraising bazaars on International Women’s Day to support sustainable development projects in rural Sri Lankan schools.

London Bazaar

  • Time: 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM GMT
  • The Fempower Sri Lanka panel discussion will be livestreamed at the London Bazaar from 12:30 PM GMT.

Colombo Bazaar

These bazaars invite the public to shop for a variety of household items, clothes, plants, and books, with proceeds going toward piloting sustainable development initiatives in rural schools across Sri Lanka.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day, Solar Village SDG’s dual initiative underscores the power of collective action in uplifting women and fostering community growth. Whether online or in-person, participation in these events will not only celebrate the achievements of Sri Lankan women but also drive meaningful change toward a more empowered and equitable future.
