Mount Lavinia Hotel kicked off its iconic 'Avurudu Maha Gedara 2025' festivities with a spectacular opening on April 6th, unveiling a traditional Kavili Kadé (sweetmeat shop) that will run until April 13th. The historic hotel was transformed into a vibrant village scene, celebrating the spirit of Sri Lankan Avurudu with colour, rhythm, and tradition. Guests were captivated by a dazzling array of cultural performances including Sinhala and Tamil dance, folk singing, Salu Paliya, a Village Chief and Wife mask act, traditional raban drumming, and a lively pus wedi (fireworks) display. Visitors also enjoyed live demonstrations of kokis and kavum making, yaara tea pouring, and traditional sweet preparation. A charming marketplace featured eco-friendly homeware, clothing, vegan treats, and local art; showcasing the hotel’s dedication to sustainability and community.
