Mount Lavinia Hotel kicked off its iconic 'Avurudu Maha Gedara 2025' festivities with a spectacular opening on April 6th, unveiling a traditional Kavili Kadé (sweetmeat shop) that will run until April 13th. The historic hotel was transformed into a vibrant village scene, celebrating the spirit of Sri Lankan Avurudu with colour, rhythm, and tradition. Guests were captivated by a dazzling array of cultural performances including Sinhala and Tamil dance, folk singing, Salu Paliya, a Village Chief and Wife mask act, traditional raban drumming, and a lively pus wedi (fireworks) display. Visitors also enjoyed live demonstrations of kokis and kavum making, yaara tea pouring, and traditional sweet preparation. A charming marketplace featured eco-friendly homeware, clothing, vegan treats, and local art; showcasing the hotel’s dedication to sustainability and community. The event warmly united heritage with hospitality, inviting all to immerse themselves in the joys of Avurudu at one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved landmarks.
